Boulder Triathlon Club
The Boulder Triathlon Club (BTC) is a triathlon club based in Boulder, Colorado. The BTC's goal is to continually provide triathletes of all levels and abilities with a various assortment of weapons like training partners, a team atmosphere, sponsorship benefits, training programs, events, and of course, advice. The BTC believes in helping each member reach their desired goals. This is the one local triathlon club I belong to; and it really is a wonderful one with lots of active members and a very nurturing environment.
TriScottsdale Foundation
Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, the TriScottsdale Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sport of Triathlon. The mission of the organization is to promote health and wellness through the growth of the sport of Triathlon in Scottsdale and the surrounding communities.
What would a sport – or any interest be like – without its supporting publications? Listed below are four of the best magazines (which I also subscribe to) that cover the sport of triathlon (and their member forums aren't too shabby either):
220 Triathlon Magazine
Based in the UK, 220 Triathlon is one of the best magazines on the market today regarding the coverage of triathlon. Everything you'd want in a triathlon magazine is here: detailed product reviews, thorough event coverage (UK and International), helpful and sometimes humorous articles, etc., etc., etc. It may cost a little extra to get this publication sent to the USA but it is so worth it. 220 Triathlon is truly a great read every month.
Triathlon & Multi-Sport Magazine
The Aussies are outstanding triathletes and fierce competitors, and with Triathlon & Multi-Sport Magazine -- directly from the great country of Australia -- you can keep up with triathlon in general and Australian Triathlon from a unique Australian point of view. Triathlon & Multi-Sport Magazine is one of the better triathlon publications on the market today. After visiting Australia almost a decade ago, I fell in love with Australia and the Australian people, so getting Triathlon & Multi-Sport Magazine delivered to me every month combines two of my favorite things in the world. Now if only we can get some true Australian beer imported to the United States…I'd literally be in heaven.
Inside Triathlon
With its headquarters located in Boulder, Colorado, Inside Triathlon has got the world of triathlon covered from what many would say is the “Triathlon Capital of the World.” Inside Triathlon includes all the qualities of a superior triathlon publication: insightful articles, great product reviews, well-placed humorous and informative articles, and has a knowledgeable staff which helps guides triathletes of all fitness levels and abilities on their triathlon journey every month.
Triathlete Magazine
Triathlete Magazine
is the world's largest triathlon-centric publication (that's what the magazine says, anyway). I wouldn't doubt it as every month Triathlete Magazine oozes with all the great information regarding triathlon you'd expect of a publication of this quality. I wouldn't say this is a better magazine than Inside Triathlon or the three other triathlon magazines listed in this section, but it has to rank up there pretty high. With Triathlete Magazine and Inside Triathlon being of such tremendous quality and outstanding editorial direction, triathlon in the US of A is completely covered.
Without community forums and/or blogs for triathletes to get together and wax poetic about their love of their sport, then triathlon would lose a lot of its heart. The “community” aspect is so important for this sport; and listed below are some of the great forums and/or blogs where lovers of all things triathlon can commiserate:
Beginner Triathlete
I cannot say enough great things about this site. For newbies and more experienced triathletes alike, this site is filled with a very caring, supportive, and knowledgeable community. If you want any of your triathlon questions answered, this is one of the first places you should go to. Beginner Triathlete.com is just a phenomenal site.
Tripinions
Tripinions.com is a recently launched website where triathletes can rank the various events around the world. Want to know if a triathlon is well-staffed or if the course is a good one for the first-time triathlete? Then this is a must visit site.
RaceAthlete.com
This site is a like a blog/forum hybrid. The main page is a blog with lots of great triathlon information and triathlon-specific links, and the link to forum takes you to a very well-rounded forum with knowledgeable users to help fellow triathletes with improving in their sport.
Shift.com
Shift.com is an up-and-coming website devoted to their member's and user's fitness goals. Members of Shift range from runners to triathletes to those just looking for a nurturing community to help them with their individual fitness goals. Members have their own blog space to not only keep other members informed of their fitness goal progress, but keep after others who may need some stronger support. The forum section of the sites consistently grows, as well. Training, nutrition, mind, body, and various other topics are well covered in the forum section.
The essence of triathlon is swimming, biking, and running. I couldn't find any sites devoted to triathlon's fourth discipline: transitions, though. Oh well! The swim, bike, and run sites listed below are a great start to not only learn about the individual disciplines of triathlon, but help hone your knowledge and abilities as well:
SWIM (SWIMMING)
USA Swimming
USA Swimming is the official site for the National Governing Body for amateur competitive swimming in the United States.
About.com : Swimming
This About.com site is a well put together site for lots of information on anything swimming. From swimming for fitness or swimming in competitions, the Swimming guide at About.com has got you covered.
BIKE (CYCLING)
Cycling News

The Tour de France
This is the English version of the official site of the TDF (Tour de France).
Bicycling Magazine
Since 1962, Bicycling Magazine every month features bikes and bike gear, equipment reviews, training plans, bike maintenance, finding great rides around the USA and the world, buying the best gear for your hard earned money, and much more. Bicycling magazine is definitely for cyclists of all levels. I also subscribe to
Bicycling Magazine as it helps me every month to hone my bicycle skills for not only a better competitive edge, but just to have more fun on the bike.
RUN (RUNNING)
Runner's Web
The Runner's Web is designed for runners and triathletes. It contains a variety of running, triathlon, and some cycling information. Also included is a well put-together forum; a blog; running, triathlon and cycling clubs; associations; organizations; race sites, race results, pace charts, and some great running and sport related links.
Runner's World
Runner's World Magazine , and its website, is filled with powerful information that will help you run faster and farther? In addition, the magazine is geared to making the experience of running lots of fun so you can have more fun doing it. Every issue of Runner's World brings you the strategies, tips and advice to fuel your performance, prevent injuries, burn fat, shed stress, and achieve your personal goals. I subscribe to Runner's World Magazine and it certainly helps me improve on my running every month.
Running Times Magazine Online
Running Times Magazine Online offers runners training advice, nutrition and sports medicine tips and a calendar of upcoming events. Features of the magazine and website include general-interest articles and of course lots of information on running, health and fitness, cross training. In addition to the above, this magazine and website covers in detail the events and personalities that make running so very unique and fun.
The athletes listed below are just plain amazing. Yes, their results speak for themselves and are truly outstanding accomplishments; but the common trait among all these great athletes is their work ethic. Without discipline, hard work, and commitment to excellence, they wouldn't have the stellar success they've enjoyed throughout their illustrious careers:
Chris McCormack
Chris "Macca" McCormick, in my opinion (and in many others' opinions as well), is the most dominant triathlete and endurance athlete overall racing today. I love this guy's work ethic, competitiveness, commitment to excellence, demeanor, and passion for the sport of triathlon. Macca has won pretty much every possible event he's competed in, including the Ford Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii (2007). I write this just minutes after Macca has won his first world championship so congrats Chris! Way to go! Chris is my favorite
athlete in the sport today and someone I look to for inspiration and motivation as I train and compete in the sport of triathlon.
Natascha Badmann
Ok, so the 6-time World Ironman Champion (1998, 2000-2002, 2004-2005) doesn't have a website …but that won't stop me from listing her here. Why? Well, this is my site and I can pretty much list her here if I want to. Honestly, Natascha is all class and truly one of triathlon's greats. Every time I train or compete I follow her example of always smiling. Trust me, this technique works wonders to pep you right up when the long training miles start to add up and you start to get fatigued. Thanks, Natascha!
Dave Scott
Dave Scott is a 6-time Ironman World Champion, the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame, and one of the most sought-after coaches and public speakers in triathlon today. His nickname is “The Man,” and deservedly so.
Paula Newby-Fraser
How's this for a resume? 8-Time Ironman Triathlon World Champion (1986, 1988, 1989, 1991-1994, 1996), 24 Ironman Championships (1986-2004), 1990 Professional Sportswoman of the Year, one of the Top 5 Pro Female Athletes of the last 25 years, and Ironman World Record Holder with a time of 8:50:24.
Peter Reid
Peter Reid is a 3-time Hawaiian Ironman Champion (1998, 2000, and 2003), 2 nd Place Ironman World Championship Finisher (1999, 2002, and 2004), and one of the truly great athletes the sport of triathlon has ever produced. Peter's website offers a lot of material including journals, race reports, photos and results. Peter also offers personal coaching with his P. R. Peak Performance Coaching Services .
Scott Tinley
Not only is Scott Tinley an Ironman legend and a Triathlete Magazine Columnist, but he wrote a fantastic book on the beginnings of triathlon that is a must read for anyone who loves sport and especially loves history and the sport triathlon. The book is entitled, “Triathlon: A Personal History.” Tinley should know what he's writing about because he's one of the greats that helped bring triathlon out of its infancy into the modern era of racing today.
Lisa Bentley
Lisa Bentley is one of the most accomplished triathletes on the planet – female or male. Her phenomenal resume includes being a 10-time Ironman Champion which includes five straight IM Australia victories, the 2nd fastest Ironman debut ever (9:29:45 at Ironman Canada in 1997), and nothing but 6 top 10 finishes in Kona every time she races there with her 2006 showing netting her best result to date: 3rd. Just outstanding.
Joanna Zeiger
Joanna Zeiger is one of the leading women triathletes in the United States. Her website provides some nice info which includes all the usual triathlon website stuff: articles, news, race results and upcoming race schedule, as well as some great hi-resolution photos.
Simon Lessing
This South African born, current Boulder, Colorado resident, is one of the best-ever triathletes who ever lived (5 time World Champion and 3 time European Champion, for starters). His work ethic and consistency in training and competition is something to strive for as a triathlete. The fact sheet on his site tells all, and pretty much all is well competition-wise for this outstanding athlete.
Michael Lovato
Michael Lovato one of the best Ironman competitors in the world (pretty much a staple in the top 10 of every race he competes in) and he is one of the nicer Ironman athletes on the circuit today.
What would triathlon be without the necessary goodies? Well, pretty boring I suppose. If you ask triathletes what they consider fun, I'm sure buying equipment or anything else to help them in training and events would rank up pretty high on the list. I know it does for me. What follows is some of the great places to buy triathlon related products:
ColoradoMultisports.com and SportsGarage.net
Colorado Multisports and Sports Garage in Boulder, Colorado are my personal bike shops and where I do all my biking business. Chris, Tim, Ryan, and the entire staff are just great to work with and are extremely knowledgeable in all things biking. How knowledgeable you might ask? Well, top-rated triathlete Chris McCormack actually hired Colorado Multisport to build, fit, and service his new speed demon of a TT/triathlon bike for the 2007 season at the Boulder store. The client list at both Colorado Multisport and Sports Garage reads like a who's who of the world of triathlon and XTerra. If you want the best biking ride of your life -- go see these guys in Boulder!
TriSports.com
TriSports.com used to solely be an online superstore for all things triathlon to purchase. That all changed when the company recently opened up a huge retail store in Tucson, Arizona. A retail location may have opened, but the online arm of the
TriSports.com Empire is going as strong as ever. TriSports.com is still as massive as ever offering pretty much everything you'll need in products pertaining to triathlon. If you want some great deals and even better service, look no further than TriSports.com.
T-Dot Triathlon
One World, One Sport, One Symbol For All...The T-Dot Triathlon Logo symbolizes the fact that all triathletes -- from those individuals who finish their very first Sprint Triathlon to those individuals who make it accross the finish line at full Ironman-Distance Triathlons -- should have something to signify their accomplishment(s). From the T-Dot Triathlon website, "If you have ever crossed the finish line, you are a member of the T-Dot Community." On the T-Dot website you'll find out about the T-Dot vision and cause; as well as being able to buy some very cool T-Dot merchandise.
Rudy Project Online
Rudy Project glasses are worn by many of the best elite triathletes competing today. When I first tried on a pair, I was hooked. One of the nice things about Rudy Project glasses is that when I put them on; I forget all about them and the emphasis is solely on training and competing. I wear the Rudy Project Ketyum model in training and competing and just love the way they look and feel.
Road Runner Sports
Road Runner Sports is a wonderful place to buy running shoes. All the major brands, and some lesser known brands, are listed on the site and are offered at very competitive prices. One of the nice aspects about the site is that often they offer past year's model of shoes to purchase and don't just discontinue carrying items just because a new version is released by a manufacturer. I can't say that about any brick and mortar shoe store.
PureFit Nutrition Bars
These bars are delicious and because they're made with all natural ingredients, non-GMO soy, and are wheat and gluten free so GI distress is either kept to a minimum or better yet, non-existent. I love the Peanut Butter Crunch flavored bar, although they also offer Almond Crunch and Chocolate Brownie flavors. I have two words for you in regards to PureFit Nutrition Bars: Yum-my!
BioBuilde
I just started taking these recovery supplements (in pill form) and they seem to perform as advertised. Every time I take my BioBuilde products I seem to recover better for the next day's workout. Plus, 6-time Ironman World Champion Dave Scott also endorses the product so I guess if it's good for “The Man” then it should be good for me. I have found it does work though (with all advertising hyperbole aside).
Hammer Nutrition, Ltd.
Hammer Products, in addition to actually working to help endurance athletes achieve their potential, are quite tasty. Even the Hammer Gel tastes great (Raspberry is my favorite flavor although they offer eight other flavors in their gels). The Hammer line is diverse and the company has products that range from Electrolyte replacement, to prostate care, to products that help digestion. Too many products to list here, but they are a very good company and nothing I've taken from them has caused any sort of GI distress or stomach upset. Give ‘em a try, you may be pleasantly surprised at how they help your performance.
Ironman Store
The Ironman Store is the official store for all your Ironman gear. They carry products including DVDs, clothing (including winter clothing), bags, wetsuits, eyewear, T-Shirts, coffee mugs, calendars, and other various triathlon-specific accessories.
Cool Sites (Not Necessarily Triathlon Related)
The internet would be pretty boring without its many distractions. Listed below are some of the fun sites I have bookmarked which really make wasting a lot of productive time lots of fun:
My Facebook Page
This is my personal page on Facebook. Facebook is extremely addicting and has some great options for people to have a very personal presence on the web -- without really having to go thru designing a website.
XM Radio
I have been a subscriber to XM Satellite Radio for many years now and I just love what their service offers. I have an XM receiver in my car; my wife also has one in hers, in addition to two more in my home. Safe to say I cannot get enough of XM's programming. My favorite channel is Channel 27: Cinemagic , which is a 24/7 movie music soundtrack station programmed by the very talented Dave Z. The quality of sound and variety of channels at XM is so much better than that other doggie satellite radio company (that I won't mention here by name)
Beyond AM. Beyond FM. XM Satellite Radio.
The Phil Hendrie Show
Phil Hendrie is a comedy genius. To say Phil just does funny voices and characters would be doing him a disservice. Phil not only does those funny voices but he uses those characters to make social commentary and talk about current events. In addition to his radio show, he is used as voice talent on projects like the movie Team America: World Police , and television shows like Family Guy and King of the Hill . Phil also is a successful screenwriter, as well. Like I said pure comedy genius.
Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908. Yes, that's 99 years without a championship (if you're scoring at home). Oh well, I can't shake the Cubs – they've been my favorite baseball team since I was a kid and I love ‘em – and this is their official site.
Chicago Bears
My entire childhood was spent growing up in the Chicagoland area and I have always loved the Chicago Bears. 2006 was a great year, but they lost in the Super Bowl to the Colts. Who knows what 2007 and beyond will bring. I don't think it will take 99 years to win another championship (like the Cubs)…but hey, we're still talking about a Chicago sports team here.
MilkandCookies.com
Milk and Cookies.com has got to be the granddaddy of all multimedia clip libraries on the web. Before there was You Tube, there was Milk and Cookies . The site is still going stronger than ever with over 57,000 members and thousands upon thousands of hours of hours of clips.
SpaceWeather.com
SpaceWeather.com is a wonderful website that contains detailed news and information about the Sun-Earth environment. On the site you'll find status reports on Sun activity; Aurora alerts; space weather conditions like solar wind speeds and solar flare activity; NOAA Forecasts, and much more.
Coast To Coast AM
Coast to Coast AM is an overnight radio program that discusses subjects like UFOs, ETs, the Paranormal and Unexplained, ghosts, and a lot more. The site used to be ArtBell.com when Art Bell was the main host years ago but since he “retired” the site evolved to what it is today. Art Bell hosts the show on weekends with George Noory hosting throughout the week. I thought the radio show would have disappeared after Art Bell retired but George Noory has done a great job taking over main hosting duties.
TV Party
If you're a child of the 1970s and 1980s, like me, you grew up at a great time in television history. TV Party.com is like a sugary and syrupy trip down memory lane as many of the TV shows we grew up with as a kid are archived here. Some shows have audio clips or video clips, or both, attached; and some others just have pictures, but the copy on the site is fresh, colorful, and very funny. At the moment you can access the entire site's archives for $5.00 every two months which includes over 500 pages and 50 hours of rare video and audio. I highly recommend it if you are a big fan of goofy old television like I am.
HomestarRunner.com
This feature-packed website is filled with offbeat cartoons and games featuring the wacky adventures of Homestar Runner, Strong Bad, Marzipan, Pom Pom, Coach Z, and the rest of the Homestar Runner gang. One of my favorite sections of the site is the Strong Bad Email. Once you “get” the site, it really is quite hilarious.
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville
If you have never been to one Jimmy Buffet's concerts, and the preceding Parrot Party, you are missing one heckuva great time. I love Buffett's upbeat, relaxed, and happy music that always seems to put me in a great mood. For all things Jimmy Buffett, visit this site.
Angry Alien Productions
Angry Alien Productions features the
30-Second Bunnies Theatre Library ... in which a troupe of bunnies parodies a collection of movies by re-enacting them in 30 seconds, more or less. It's really very funny stuff if you're a big movie fan.
And last, but not at all least:
The Top 100 Facts for Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris has to be one of the coolest people on the planet. This Top 100 list explains why. While you're also on the site, check out the Top 100 facts for Vin Diesel and Mr. T.
